The Tennessee Titans are undergoing a major transformation under new general manager Mike Borgonzi, who is reshaping the roster in his first year at the helm. Borgonzi, previously a key executive with the Kansas City Chiefs for 16 seasons, has brought a winning pedigree to Tennessee, aiming to build a more competitive and modern team.
Since taking over, Borgonzi has made sweeping changes. He started by trimming underperforming players from the roster to create salary cap flexibility. That cap space was then used to bring in young talent to address crucial needs across the team. His approach continued in the 2025 NFL Draft, where he made nine picks and further bolstered the roster with several notable undrafted free agents.
As part of this roster overhaul, some of the Titans’ former players have moved on. Most recently, offensive linemen Nicholas Petit-Frere and Andre Dillard signed one-year deals with the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Petit-Frere, a third-round pick in 2022, was viewed as a disappointment in Tennessee. He struggled with injuries and inconsistent play throughout his brief tenure. Dillard, on the other hand, joined the Titans for the 2023 season and contributed as a solid part-time starter, though he wasn’t seen as a long-term solution.
With the Titans investing heavily in rebuilding their offensive line over the past two offseasons — both through the draft and free agency — the team now boasts a core of young linemen with potential. That youth movement ultimately made veterans like Petit-Frere and Dillard expendable.
Their departure to the 49ers reflects a changing of the guard in Tennessee, as the franchise looks to forge a new identity under Borgonzi’s leadership. As these former Titans seek fresh starts in San Francisco, the Titans continue to focus on developing their next generation of talent in hopes of returning to AFC contention.
