The Indiana Fever’s announcement that guard Caitlin Clark suffered a quadriceps injury on Monday has been met with surprise and disappointment from fans who have hoped to see the star play in upcoming games.
The team noted that Clark will be re-evaluated in two weeks, but it’s also possible her injury could keep her off the court for up to six full weeks, depending on how bad it is. The Fever have a full slate of games coming up, and Clark’s absence will be felt some more than others
Indiana Fever’s schedule for the next 2 weeks
If Clark suffered a grade I strain to her quadriceps, she will likely miss the team’s upcoming matches against the Mystics, Sun, and Sky, but could return to the floor ahead of their June game against the Dream. The Fever has already demonstrated the ability to take down the Mystics and Sky during the preseason and the regular season, and the Sun should be easy opponents for the team with or without Clark.
The team’s game against the Dream presents an interesting challenge for both squads. They have already met twice in the regular season and have taken a win each — whether or not Clark is on the court could be the deciding factor in terms of how this game goes.
Indiana Fever’s schedule for the next 6 weeks
If Clark suffered a grade II strain, she could miss up to 6 weeks of play, which would see her returning to the court at the beginning of July. This would also mean she’d miss the Fever’s rematch against the Liberty on June 14.
The team will have a few games against the Sun, Mystics, and Sky as well before they face the Golden State Valkyries on June 19 — a game that could be interesting for the expansion team if Clark is out. The Valkyries have fared far better than many thought they would this season, and Clark missing in action could give the team a leg up that they’ll need.
Beyond that, the Fever then take on the Aces, Storm, Sparks, Wings, Aces, and Sparks again before Clark would likely return July 7 (if the injury requires the full six weeks).
