Kansas State QB Avery Johnson Elevates Profile On and Off the Field

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson is expanding his brand beyond football. Known for his elite speed and dual-threat capabilities, Johnson recently partnered with Long McArthur Ford, appearing in an Instagram post featuring him with a Mercedes AMG.

“From Lavender to Legendary. Avery Johnson is known for his speed, and now his ride matches it!” the post read, highlighting the quarterback’s agility both on the field and behind the wheel.

The promotion comes as Johnson continues to build his image, which now includes a signature drink in addition to his NIL deals.

Performance and Expectations

On the field, Johnson showed flashes of brilliance in 2024, throwing for 2,712 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while adding 605 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. His mobility remains his greatest asset, giving Kansas State a dynamic edge under center.

However, the Wildcats’ season ended in disappointment, missing the postseason after a shaky November stretch in which Johnson struggled against Big 12 opponents.

Coach’s Confidence in Growth

Head coach Chris Klieman remains confident in Johnson’s development heading into 2025.

“All of us are counting on Avery taking that next step, and I know he is too,” Klieman said in a May 7 SiriusXM interview. “He’s feeling so much more confident and comfortable.”

With national expectations still hovering around the program, Kansas State’s hopes hinge on Johnson progressing into a more consistent and polished passer to match his electric athleticism.
