Breaking News: Virginia Tech Hokies Football Head Coach Brent Pry Confirms Top Sensational Star Player Officially Announces Departure From Virginia Tech Hokies Football On His Social Media Due To…

Virginia Tech appears to have struck gold at the quarterback position for the foreseeable future. With Kyron Drones and Collin Schlee unavailable, freshman Pop Watson seized his opportunity and delivered a performance that could mark the beginning of a new era for the Hokies’ offense.

Watson had only seen limited action late in the game against Duke, giving little indication of the breakout showing he would have against in-state rival Virginia. Against the Cavaliers, Watson earned the highest Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of any Virginia Tech player on the field that day — an impressive 87.3. Standing at 5-foot-11, he’s been questioned due to his size, drawing comparisons to NFL star Kyler Murray, who faced similar skepticism. But Watson’s showing in this rivalry game quieted many of those doubts. He managed pressure more effectively than in previous appearances and flashed an athleticism that arguably sets him apart from the rest of the Hokies’ quarterback room this season.

Watson completed passes for 254 yards and added 48 yards rushing, all while avoiding turnovers. His composure and decision-making were notable; he avoided unnecessary risks and displayed a mature understanding of the flow of the game, never forcing plays that weren’t there. Rather than constantly chasing big gains, Watson showed a calculated approach — a trait uncommon in young quarterbacks.

That said, he demonstrated the ability to stretch the field as well. He connected on explosive plays, including a 66-yard bomb to Jaylin Lane, a 42-yard completion to Da’Quan Felton, and a 40-yard strike to Ali Jennings. His poise and self-confidence were evident — both in his body language and in the command he displayed over the offense. Watson looks to be exactly the type of player the Hokies can build around moving forward.

With three full years of eligibility remaining, Watson has a promising future. Of course, with talent like his, other programs may come calling. But for now, he remains a Virginia Tech Hokie — and he looks every bit the future leader of this football team.
