Wilson Ramos Retires as a Washington National After 13-Year MLB Career
Veteran catcher Wilson Ramos has officially closed the chapter on his Major League Baseball career by signing a ceremonial one-day contract with the Washington Nationals, allowing him to retire as a member of the team where he spent a significant and memorable part of his playing days.
Ramos enjoyed a 13-season run in the big leagues, showcasing his talents with several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Guardians. Throughout his career, Ramos earned a reputation as a reliable and productive catcher both offensively and defensively.
He began his MLB journey with the Minnesota Twins, where he made his debut in 2010. However, it was during his time with the Nationals that Ramos made his greatest impact. He played in Washington from 2010 through 2016, becoming a fan favorite for his strong arm behind the plate and consistent performance with the bat. His breakout season came in 2016 when he was named to the National League All-Star team. That year, he batted .307 with 22 home runs and 80 RBIs, making him one of the most dangerous offensive catchers in the league.
