INDIANAPOLIS— The Indiana Fever have made notable adjustments to their roster, officially releasing veteran guard/forward DeWanna Bonner and signing guard Aari McDonald for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season.
Bonner, who joined Indiana as a free agent earlier this season, appeared in nine games. During that span, she averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Despite initial optimism, both the team and Bonner ultimately agreed that the partnership wasn’t the right match.
“I’m deeply grateful to the Indiana Fever for giving me the chance to be part of the organization,” Bonner said in a statement. “Even though we entered the season with high hopes, I realized this wasn’t the best fit for me at this point in my career. I truly appreciate the team’s understanding and support in allowing me to take this next step. I wish the Fever continued growth and success as they build around a promising young core.”
Meanwhile, the Fever have opted to bring back Aari McDonald, who previously suited up for the team on a short-term hardship contract. McDonald made a strong impression in her brief time, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals over three appearances.
The 26-year-old guard, who has prior WNBA experience with both the Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream, expressed her enthusiasm about rejoining Indiana.
“I’m thrilled to be back with the Fever,” said McDonald. “Even though my previous time with the team was short, it felt like home right away. I’m thankful to the coaches, my teammates, and the fans for welcoming me with open arms. Above all, I’m grateful to God for guiding me on this amazing journey.”
Amber Cox, the Fever’s Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, spoke highly of McDonald’s return, praising her immediate contributions during her earlier stint with the team.
“Aari brought energy, toughness, and poise from the minute she stepped on the court in Indianapolis,” Cox said. “She fits perfectly with the identity we’re working to develop within the Fever—both as a defender and a playmaker. We’re excited to welcome her back for the rest of the season.”
The Indiana Fever will resume play on Thursday, June 27, when they host the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
