Indiana Fever Make Roster Moves: Bonner Waived, McDonald Signed for Season Remainder

INDIANAPOLIS— On Wednesday, the Indiana Fever announced a pair of significant roster decisions: the release of veteran wing DeWanna Bonner and the signing of guard Aari McDonald for the rest of the 2025 WNBA season.

Bonner, who came to Indiana as a free agent before the start of the current season, saw action in nine games for the Fever. In that time, she posted averages of 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Despite her experience and early promise, Bonner and the team ultimately agreed that parting ways was the best option.

Expressing appreciation for the franchise, Bonner stated, “I’m truly thankful to the Indiana Fever for welcoming me into the organization. Although we entered the season with aligned hopes and enthusiasm, it became clear that the chemistry wasn’t quite right. I value the organization’s understanding and support in my decision to move on at this stage of my career. I have great respect for this group and wish them the best as they continue to develop their young talent.”

As Bonner exits, the Fever welcome back a familiar face in Aari McDonald, who previously joined the team on a temporary hardship exception contract. During her short three-game stint, McDonald made a noticeable impact, averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per contest.

The 26-year-old guard, known for her tenacity and quickness, has past WNBA experience with both the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks. Her time in Indiana may have been brief, but it left a strong impression—on both her and the franchise.

“I’m incredibly happy to return to Indiana,” McDonald shared. “Even during my short time with the team, I felt an instant connection with the environment and the people here. I’m grateful to the coaches, my teammates, and the fans for embracing me so warmly. Most importantly, I give thanks to God for the journey that brought me back.”

Indiana Fever COO and General Manager Amber Cox praised McDonald’s performance and attitude during her initial games, highlighting her seamless integration with the team.

“Aari brought an immediate spark when she joined us,” said Cox. “She fit our playing style and team culture from day one. Her defensive intensity and playmaking abilities were on full display in just a few games, and we’re thrilled to officially bring her back for the rest of the season.”

The Fever will be back on the court Thursday, June 27, when they host the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
