Phillies Add Walker Buehler to Strengthen Rotation for Playoff Push
PHILADELPHIA —The Philadelphia Phillies announced Sunday that they have signed veteran right-hander Walker Buehler to reinforce their pitching staff ahead of a potential postseason run.
The 31-year-old, a two-time National League All-Star and World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020 and 2024, was released by the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Buehler went 7–7 with a 5.45 ERA across 23 appearances this season, including 22 starts.
Philadelphia, currently atop the NL East, needed rotation help after losing ace Zack Wheeler for the remainder of the season with thoracic outlet syndrome. Buehler, who has been assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, will be eligible to pitch in the playoffs.
“We’re excited to have him because we think he makes us better,” Phillies president Dave Dombrowski said. “We’re trying to do everything possible to secure a postseason berth, and once we’re there, to compete for a championship.”
