LSU Senior Jordan Sears Reflects on Final Home Game, Looks Ahead to SEC Tournament
Following LSU’s 66-52 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon, senior guard Jordan Sears spoke candidly with the media about his final appearance in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and what lies ahead for the Tigers in the SEC Tournament.
Despite the team’s offensive struggles, Sears stood out as a bright spot. He led LSU in scoring, dropping 21 points in 35 minutes of play — the only Tiger to reach double figures. It was a gritty performance, one made even more impressive by the fact that he was dealing with a minor ankle injury during the game.
“I just wanted to win and go out there,” Sears said. “I felt like I was having a great game.”
Sears confirmed he tweaked his ankle at some point in the game but chose to play through the discomfort, determined to help his team end the regular season on a high note.
“I just wanted to go out and get a dub for the guys,” he added.
Saturday’s matchup also marked a milestone for Sears and four other LSU seniors, who were honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. The occasion added an emotional weight to the afternoon, especially knowing it was his final time suiting up on his home court.
“It was a little emotional,” Sears admitted. “This is your last time playing in the PMAC. But you still got a game to play, so you lock in.”
While the Tigers couldn’t secure a win to cap off the regular season, their season isn’t over yet. LSU will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, for the SEC Tournament beginning Monday. The team is scheduled to face Mississippi State in a crucial opening-round matchup at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sears emphasized the importance of staying focused and true to the team’s identity as they head into postseason play.
“Continue to be LSU, continue to build, continue to keep working,” he said. “Play how we play and everything will work itself out.”
The Tigers will now turn their attention to making a run in the SEC Tournament, hoping to extend their season and potentially earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. For Sears, it’s one last chance to make a statement in purple and gold.
