“I Want To Play For Steelers .” Good News: Pittsburgh Steelers Just Officially Announced the Signing of Another Top, Experienced Superstar…

The Pittsburgh Steelers may find themselves revisiting trade discussions for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, a scenario reminiscent of last year’s offseason. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the San Francisco 49ers are still open to trading Aiyuk, and the Steelers, in need of a wide receiver, could be potential suitors.

Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the 49ers in August 2024, suffered a torn ACL and MCL in October, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Before his injury, he had 25 receptions for 374 yards in seven games. Despite the injury, Aiyuk’s contract includes a $22.85 million roster bonus due on April 1, 2025, making a trade before that date financially feasible for the 49ers .

The Steelers, having invested $33 million annually in DK Metcalf, are still seeking a complementary wide receiver. While Aiyuk’s recent injury and substantial contract present challenges, his previous Pro Bowl performance and potential upside make him an attractive option. The 49ers’ openness to trade discussions, combined with the Steelers’ need, suggests that negotiations could reignite.

However, the 49ers’ current stance indicates they are not actively pursuing a trade for Aiyuk, especially given their reliance on him following the departure of other key receivers. General Manager John Lynch has acknowledged the team’s need to recalibrate financially but has not committed to moving Aiyuk .

In summary, while a trade involving Brandon Aiyuk is not imminent, the combination of the Steelers’ needs and the 49ers’ financial considerations keeps the possibility on the table. Both teams’ decisions in the coming weeks will determine whether this scenario materializes.
