Spencer Schwellenbach’s outing Sunday was a strong individual performance despite the loss. The former Saginaw Heritage standout showed impressive command and efficiency, throwing 101 pitches with 79 for strikes and issuing no walks. His career-high 11 strikeouts and first-pitch strikes to 22 of 28 batters highlight his ability to challenge hitters early and effectively.
The blemish on his line came from two key home runs by Gavin Sheets and Jake Cronenworth, which ultimately proved costly in Atlanta’s 5-3 defeat to San Diego. Still, Schwellenbach’s seven-inning, two-earned-run effort marks a promising step forward, showing growth and resilience even in a losing effort.
