RaeQuan Battle, a former guard for West Virginia University, scores 12 points in his Hornets debut.
On the first night of the NBA Summer League in the California Classic on Saturday, RaeQuan Battle came off the bench for the Charlotte Hornets and shot an effective 4-6 from three-point range for 12 points while also grabbing an offensive rebound and a steal in 14 minutes of play.
The former Mountaineer guard opened the game by making back-to-back threes to give the Hornets a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter. He finished the game with two more threes in the fourth quarter.
Battle scored 16.1 points per game on average during his one and only season at West Virginia University last year. Throughout the season, he recorded nine 20-point games in 22 appearances. He opened the season with a career-high 29 points against Radford in his WVU debut, repeated the feat against Toledo the next week, and then scored 24 points in game three at Rocket Mortgage Arena against Ohio State.
The native of Tulalip, Washington, transferred to WVU after scoring a career-high 32 points against Sacramento State and averaged 17.7 points per game in his second season at Montana State.
The Hornets and Battle will resume their game on Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2.
